Brigitte Macron, France’s first lady, will teach literature to unemployed people in Clichy-Sous-Bois, a notorious banlieue east of Paris known as the starting point for the riots that erupted in 2005.
Starting in September, Macron will teach “classic literature and cultural heritage” at a new training center, the Institut des vocations pour l’emploi (LIVE), which provides education and training for unemployed people over the age of 25 without a degree, the weekly Journal du Dimanche reported, quoting Olivier Klein, the mayor of Clichy-Sous-Bois.
Macron, who was a teacher in the northern city of Amiens when she met her future husband, is on the board of the LIVE training center.
According to Journal du Dimanche, 50 adults will be selected to follow the training course with Macron “for free” and will get an allowance for doing so, in addition to their unemployment benefits.
Another similar project is scheduled to open in the southern city of Valence in 2020.
